The Look Back Library
Preserving the History of Skateboarding
For Kevin Marks, a Midwestern kid growing up in the 80s, Thrasher Magazine was a portal into another world. Feeling the physical distance between himself and the California-based skateboarding industry, Marks read magazines to connect with that community from hundreds of miles away.
29 years later, this initial act of reading and collecting skateboarding magazines would develop into the legacy of the Look Back Library. Fueled by his passion for uniting the skateboarding community and preserving skateboarding-related print media, Marks has developed more than 150 libraries worldwide.
One of these libraries is right here at SF Skate Club!
All visitors are welcome to enjoy our full collection, including a complete set of Slap Magazine, to which our co-founder Shawn Connolly has a special connection — in the 90s, Shawn worked at High Speed Printing, where Slap is produced.
